The HP Pavilion San Jose is an indoor arena located in the Northern California city's downtown area. The arena had originally opened in 1993 as the San Jose Arena, but naming rights were later sold in 2001 when the facility became known as the Compaq Center at San Jose. In 2002 Hewlett Packard bought out Compaq and the arena was renamed the HP Pavilion, under which it has continued to operate. Throughout its years of business, the HP Pavilion San Jose has consistently been ranked among the Top 5 Arenas in N. America, and the Top 10 in the world, according to Pollstar Magazine.
In its history, the venue has been home to over five professional sports teams: the AFL’s San Jose Sabercats, the NBA’s Golden State Warriors and the NLL’s San Jose Stealth are just a few of the more popular teams that have taken up residence at the HP Pavilion San Jose over the years. At present, The HP Pavilion's primary tenant is the NHL’s San Jose Sharks - a residency which is responsible for the venue's adopting the popular 'Shark Tank' nickname.
While the tenants' home games form a large part of the HP Pavilion schedule, the venue is tailor made for a lot more than just sport. With a seated capacity of 20,000, and having hosted more than 2,400 events since it first opened is doors, the HP Pavilion San Jose is also an ideal venue for concerts and family-friendly shows. Lady Gaga, Disney on Ice, Taylor Swift, Tina Tuner, American Idols Live, Jay-Z, Pink and Miley Cyrus are just a few performance events which have featured on the schedule in the past.
