Affectionately known as "The Can", the Pepsi Center in Downtown Denver is home to the Denver Nuggets and the Colorado Avalanche. While basketball and hockey games are definitely the Pepsi Center's biggest events, the venue also schedules a number of acclaimed concerts, family shows, and ice shows. Denver audiences continue to buy tickets for these events and many others occurring often at the Pepsi Center.
The Pepsi Center opened in 1999 as a replacement for the now-demolished McNichols Sports Arena. Since that time, it has been home to both the Nuggets and the Avalanche and hosted the 2001 Stanley Cup Finals, which was the second Stanley Cup win by the Avalanche. The Pepsi Center is also home to the National Lacrosse League's Colorado Mammoth, whose season coincides with those of both Nuggets and Avalanche. That leaves many of the spring and summer months without sports at the Pepsi Center, during which a schedule of concerts, family shows, and various ice capades take over the arena.
